D.J. Hightower

I was born in Colorado Springs, CO on November 15th, 1992. There was a lack of involvement in high school due to an extreme focus on wrestling which resulted in taking 4th in the State Tournament my Senior year. That helped drive me to decide to come to Fort Hays State University and shift my focus to bettering my environment and the people in it. I realized the best way to do this was to get involved with student organizations, and participate in community service. So far I have been a member of Black Student Union, Students for Concealed Carry, as well as a mentor Global Justice Learning Community. I have also strived to take on leadership roles and responsibility at the University, so far at FHSU I having held an officer position in the University Activity Board, the Defensive Tactics Club, and Sigma Phi Epsilon. I enjoy helping the community recording hundreds of Community service hours in things such as teaching self-defense classes, working with Tigers in Service, and volunteering for things like the Hays Paint-A-Thon, Swipe out Hunger, and Up till Dawn Letter writing event. My personal goal for the rest of my years at FHSU and essentially for the rest of my life is to leave a positive impact on the groups I come in contact with and on every individual that I meet.
